Forget the ham and the mayonnaise. They just want to know the number of combos of toppings. So we're focusing on the set {lettuce, onions, peppers, olives}

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that just involves us finding all the subsets of the set {lettuce, onions, peppers, olives}

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

there are 4 items in this set, so there are 2^4 = 16 subsets that means there are 16 ways to order ham subs with mayonnaise (with any combo of those toppings or no toppings at all)

Wait why did we raise 2 to the fourth power?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the proof as to why/how it works is a bit complicated but I'm using this idea http://www.mathsisfun.com/sets/power-set.html

Lol I'm sorry😜 I'm not exactly sure on how this site really works yet cuz I just started today but from what I read from other questions, medals are supposed to be positive awards. Am I right? So I thought you deserved one, you really helped me.Hehehe, thank you again for all the help

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
