What was the purpose of D-Day?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to launch a surprise invasion of Europe from southern Italy to encourage the Soviet Union to continue fighting on the Eastern Front to reclaim Western Europe first before attempting to move Allied troops into Germany to establish a stronghold on Germany's northern coast

I picked d

Rather between C or D, but in both answers C would come first because without a stronghold on the German northern coast, it would make reclaiming Western Europe hard, very hard. A would not be the answer because ''surprise attack'' on Southern Italy was in later events and not in DDAY. Lastly B would not be the answer because the Soviets were fighting in the Eastern Front mainly without allied troops, lets be honest there main Encouragement came from Stalin and the views of Soviet Russia and how prideful you should be to be defending and attacking the enemy.

Thanks, I think I'll go with C.

I'm sorry I meant D , C would come after D. My Mistake I was too into it I switched up the letters.

OpenStudy (toots):

THE CORRECT ANSWER IS C. I GOT THIS ONE RIGHT SO USE C to reclaim Western Europe first before attempting to move Allied troops into Germany
