Nnesha (nnesha):

can anyone help me please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

atleast hopefully ahah

Nnesha (nnesha):

@tejasvir

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just do synthetic division. are u familiar with that?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so if its a factor and you do sinthetic division you should get zero as a remainder.

Nnesha (nnesha):

can you do that for me please i don't know why i keep doing this wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay sure! lets start from the bottom. let me know what you get and ill tell you if that is what i got or not

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure but that isnt synthetic division. have you learnt what synthetic divison

Nnesha (nnesha):

no not yet sorry i thought the other things

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm. well i dont want to deviate from what you've already learnt. but is it okay if i show you an easier and faster way?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yeam :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay sorry my computer died.

Nnesha (nnesha):

no problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so heres the super easy way to solve it and you can impress your teacher if you havent already learnt it haha:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so what you do is set each of the answer choices equal to zero and solve for x okay? u with me so far?

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes of course :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay cool so then what did you get when you solved for x for each of the answer choices except for a.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good! okay thats what i got aswell. so what you do know is plug each of the answers you got into the original equation. if you get a zero as an answer for any of them. then you know thats a factor! does that make sense?

Nnesha (nnesha):

when x=-2 i got 0

OpenStudy (nikato):

Then that means x+2 IS a factor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly so find the one that doesnt equal zero and thats the answer

Nnesha (nnesha):

so x - 2 is answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay good job!!:)

Nnesha (nnesha):

thank a lot

Nnesha (nnesha):

can you help me in another question "if you don't mind"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay im not sure how to go about answer choice a but i will look it up and let you know. i feel like you plug in zero for the equation but im not a hundred percent sure.

OpenStudy (nikato):

actually, i would factor to solve this problem all three terms have a 5x in common. so \[5x(2x ^{2}-x-10)\]

OpenStudy (nikato):

then factor whats in the parenthesis and you'll get (2x-5)(x+2)

Nnesha (nnesha):

yeha this is another to solve this

OpenStudy (nikato):

if you dont know how to factor it, i just multiplied the first and thrid term which = -20 and the middle term is -1 so you;re looking for two numbers that multiply to -20 but also add up to -1 and that would be -5 and 4 |dw:1407563597168:dw|
