this is quite a tricky pattern to spot.

I'll try to explain it - the first in the sequence is 1
So, when telling someone what you see here you would say "I see one 1"
They are writing "one 1" as 11 - this is the second number in the sequence.

Now, if someone asked you what you saw as the second number in the sequence, you would say "I see two 1's"
They are writing "two 1's" as 21 - this is the third number in the sequence.

Now, if some asked you what you saw as the third number in the sequence, you would say "I see one 2 and one 1"
They are writing "one 2 and one 1" as 1211
