Missy is organizing the seating arrangements for a concert in her local park. The first row's seats are modeled by the function f(x) = 10. To give everyone a good view, each row must have two more seats than the row before it. The number of additional seats a row has is modeled by the function s(x) = 2(x - 1). Explain to Missy how to create an equation to predict the number of seats in any row. Describe how to determine the number of seats in the 20th row. Use complete sentences.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

This is just an arithmetic sequence, with d=2, and a1=10

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Use the \(\large\color{darkblue}{a_n=a_1+d(n-1)}\) , fill in your values, \(\large\color{darkblue}{a_n=10+2(n-1)}\)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Or you can say, \(\large\color{darkblue}{f(x)=10+2(x-1)}\). It is the same exact thing, but in a different form.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

for 20th row, plug in 20 into n for the An formula, or plug in 20 for x, into the f(x)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Which ever way you like, the arithm. sequence, or the function.
