How would the plants in a specific environment be impacted if there was a sudden drop in the amount of bacteria present in that area?

You see, when bacteria decompose, they leave behind nutrients which then filter down into the soil. This then, in turn, filters into the roots of the plant via the water that it sucks up / absorbs it. So a loss in certain nutrients could easily result in the death of the plant.
