Do you know how to do this? If so, please help! @phi @Calcmathlete
Hmm, I WANT to say that it looks like the median falls right at 28...so that would mean 50 percent would be less than that...but don't want to solidify that statement lol
I know, it's sketchy...
hmm well.. look at the boxes.. do you think is the green one, or the blue one?
Blue!
right... so we can say that off the options given is NOT 50%, since the blue box is not taking up half of the whole is NOT 75%, since it's not even taking half, much less 75% so the only plausible choices is the obvious one though the blue box doesn't really look like 1/4 of the whole either, or 25%
the blue box looks more like the 30% of the whole really
@jdoe0001 It looks like 25% , but are you saying it's "D" ...?
I'd side with D yes the box is not small enough to be 25%
looks more like 1/3 or 33%
I thought it would be 25% because it's between 20 and 30 .. I thought the "green" box would be 33% since it's between 30 and on..
More like 28/29 and on (green box)..
well.. it lies between 20 and 30 because those are the AGES so yes, the ages of the the "blue" watchers is around 24 - 28 but their percentage of the whole is about 33%
That small blue box is 33% ?
@phi "/
The box is divided by the mean see http://www.basic-mathematics.com/box-and-whiskers-plot.html in other words, the median is where the blue and green meet. that line is above 28 meaning half of the people are below 28 and half are older
*The box is divided by the *median* (not mean)
@phi Does that mean you can conclude it's "D" ??
they want you to know that the median occurs at about 28 that means 50% of the people are older than 28 and 50% are younger than 28
@phi Did you check what john doe said...? Because he actually contradicted that it was 50% !
@ganeshie8
If you were told that the median age of the viewers was 28, then you would know that half of the viewers are younger than 28. the box-and-whiskers plot shows you that the median is 28
