- The table shows data for a class's mid-term and final exams Which data set has the smallest IQR? They have the same IQR. Mid-term exams Final exams There is not enough information -The table shows data from a survey about the number of times families travel by car or taxi during an average week. The families are either from a rural town (population under 5,000) or a large city (population over 1 million): Which of the choices below best describes how to measure the center of this data? Both centers are best described with the mean. Both centers are best described with the median. The country data center is best described by the mean. The city data center is best described by the median. The country data center is best described by the median. The city data center is best described by the mean. -The table shows data from a survey about the amount of time students spend doing homework each week. The students were either in college or in high school Which of the choices below best describes how to measure the spread of this data? (Hint: Use the minimum and maximum values to check for outliers.) Both spreads are best described with the IQR. Both spreads are best described with the standard deviation. The college spread is best described by the IQR. The high school spread is best described by the standard deviation. The college spread is best described by the standard deviation. The high school spread is best described by the IQR. -The box plots show attendance at a local movie theater and high school basketball games: Which of the following best describes how to measure the spread of the data? The IQR is a better measure of spread for movies than it is for basketball games. The standard deviation is a better measure of spread for movies than it is for basketball games. The IQR is the best measurement of spread for games and movies. The standard deviation is the best measurement of spread for games and movies

where is the sets of data?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry im getting them now - Mid-Term Final 96 100 95 85 92 85 90 83 87 83 86 82 82 81 81 78 80 78 78 78 73 75 that's for the first one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rural Town City 5 0 6 0 7 1 8 1 15 5 25 8 25 9 35 10 36 12 40 18 42 38 second one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

High Low Q1 Q3 IQR Median Mean σ College 50 5 7.5 15 7.5 11 13.8 6.4 High School 16 0 9.5 14.5 5 13 10.7 5.3 third one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so you have to find mean and median for both the sets to do any actual comparison.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

forth one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay sorry I am having really bad connection and yeah there fixing it tomorrow but any way so... are we working on the first one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aryandecoolest

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah give a minute..you try yourself there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so IQR is inter quartile range... start be defining the quartiles and letting q0 and q4 be outliers; the range from q1 to q3 is the IQR.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ay so I got for the mean on the mid term 85.4 and mean for the final I got 73.4 and for the median I got for the mid term 86 and for the final I got 82.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that right @aryandecoolest

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah!! but you should find out smallest Iqr in first one, you know how to calculate iqr, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11 elements, divide by 4 to define positional quartiles the value in the 11*0/4 th position is q0 the value in the 11*1/4 th position is q1 the value in the 11*2/4 th position is q2 the value in the 11*3/4 th position is q3 the value in the 11*4/4 th position is q4 if you get a decimal, rnd up to the next value if you get a value without a decimal, you would have to average some elements...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah! it's A. for first one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah that's what I was starting to think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks ..... number 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now in second you have to find mean and medians in order to compare.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well for third one... Calculate for both College and High School... How many standard deviations from the Mean to the Minimum? How many standard deviations from the Mean to the Maximum? as far i think it should be... (C)The college spread is best described by the IQR. The high school spread is best described by the standard deviation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay well for the second one I got for the mean I got 22.1 and 9.2 and for the median I got 25 and 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I think the second one is c to am I right @aryandecoolest

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah you are :) @danibear401
