because you obviously can't draw even a mile on a piece of paper

yeah it is B... we can't draw 100 miles on paper, so we use scale on map, to show the exact length of any object on a piece of paper... the scale on a map is compared with a proper ratio... like 100 miles = 1 inch... and so on... @lone981
