Medway High School has 1,350 students this year. This is 8% more than last year. How many students were there last year? A. 100 B. 1,250 C. 1,458 D. 750 who can help me Out ????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply 1350 by .08, then add the product to 1350.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you are supposed to subtract, not add. Because it was less last year.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1,350 x .08 = 108 So, 1350-108 = 1,242. So 1,242 students last year, but it isn't in the answers, but I am really sure my answer is correct...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I'm sorry my mistake, subtract the product

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If they want you to round, but that is strange, the answer is 1,242

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hm no, think of it like this 1350 students = 8% more than last year if last year is 100% , then this year is 108% now find 1% 1350/108= 12.5 = 1% to find 100%, multiply 1% by 100 12.5(100)= 1250 students answer B is correct, but this method gets you the exact answer.
