Yes, I have this bug too sometimes. There are days when I get notified right away, or when I can see the notifications, when I click the mail-box, but without the orange 1 on top. Or times, nothing at all, and then I refresh or switch browser. This works for me, but it is not really a solution to the problem though, I am just walking around it.
