There are two fruit trees located at (3,0) and (–3, 0) in the backyard plan. Maurice wants to use these two fruit trees as the focal points for an elliptical flowerbed. Johanna wants to use these two fruit trees as the focal points for some hyperbolic flowerbeds. Create the location of two vertices on the y-axis. Show your work creating the equations for both the horizontal ellipse and the horizontal hyperbola. Include the graph of both equations and the focal points on the same coordinate plane.

huh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Igtg, sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get that?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... we have a focus point.... we do not have a major axis or minor/conjugate axis though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so... without knowing what those are.... not sure we could get "a" or "b" if we knew either... we could get the other

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmm can you post a screenshot of the material? maybe there's more info

thats all there is. please help me

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ohhh ... shoot.. I just read... it again dohhh " Create the location of two vertices on the y-axis " so you ARE expected to make up the values of either... so.... pick your points over the y-axis then |dw:1407801442390:dw| <-- there... you can draw on that btw

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so... what vertices did you pick? keep in mind you're meant to make up the values over the y-axis
