OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so.... what is the slope of say y = 2x -1 anyway?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh is it B? @jdoe0001

OpenStudy (tylerd):

the slope is 2

OpenStudy (tylerd):

y=mx+b m is slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then B right?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

because your trying to find the perpendicular line in this case. the slope is the negative reciprocal so -1/2

OpenStudy (tylerd):

2/1 = 2 1/2 would be the reciprocal

OpenStudy (tylerd):

then make it negative for -1/2 and thats the slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooohh C?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

it will be either C or D we still have to findout what the y intercept is (b)

OpenStudy (tylerd):

so y=-1/2x+b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok then wait let me find out(:

OpenStudy (tylerd):

we are given (-2,-2) x and y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so d right

OpenStudy (tylerd):

C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ty omg so i just need to find the slope right?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

-2 = -1/2(-2) + b -2= 1+b -3=b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok can you help me with 2 more? (:

OpenStudy (tylerd):

sorry i gotta study my own HW atm.

OpenStudy (tylerd):

but for perpendicular lines remember negative reciprocal is the slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thanks(:
