can someone help me with this system of equations!
2x=-y+6 -4x+3y=8 What is the solution to this system of equations? (-1, -4) (1, 4) (4, 1) (-4, -1)
@bibby or @mathkid10 do you think you can help?
Let's solve via substitution. Start by solving for y: 2x=-y+6
okay ... how exactly do I do that
Get y on one side?
first u should negate 2x on both sides then it would like this -y=-2x+6, the x come first cause you should have it in y=mx+b form then u should divide y by each number which would be -1, it would look like this -y=-2x+6 -1/y= y -2/-1=2 6/-1=-6 then it should look like thid when put togther y=2x-6 this is your first step
okay so now I have y=2x-6 now what do I do
@mathkid10
substitute it into the equation -4x+3y=8
or @bibby eather one lol any way how exactly do I substitute it into the equation?
Where it says y. replace the equation. How are you doing these problems if you don't understand the lessons behind them?
I did the lesson and stuff im just really struggling so sometimes I get a little help on understanding a little better..... okay so now I have -4x+6x-18=8 so I assume I compare like terms and for the -18 I do the oppisite to combine it with 8 am I right?
-4x+3y=8 y = 6-2x ----- -4x+3(6-2x)= 8 That's what I meant by substitution
yeah i know and then i did it and got -4x+6x-18=8 and i assume that i combine like term and for -18 i do reverse opporation with 8 to combine those
-4x+18-6x=8 -10x+18=8 -10x=-10 x=1
then you can plug that into either equation to find y
so i am right okay
wait i thought it was -4x +3(2x-6)=8 which comes out to be -4x +6x-18=8
Yeah the problem is in solving for y. y=6-2x not 2x-6
mathkid got 2x-6 which is what ive been going off on how did you get 6-x for y?
2x=-y+6 first step add y to 2x y+2x=6
okay... so then wouldent you minuce 2x to make it y=-2x+6 to get the y by itself
yeah. and you can just reorder the terms y=-2x+6 is the same thing as y=6-2x
oh okay so now i have -4x+3(-2x-6)=8 and that makes -4x-6x+18=8 and that =-10x+18=8 and then i do reverse opperations so -10x+18=8 -18 -18 which equals -10x=-10 divide that and it =1 so x=1 and then i substitute it into one of the eqations to get y and that's my answer so now im going to go ahead and substitute it into -4x+3y=8 so it looks like -4(1)-3y=8 so that turns out to be -4+3y=8 you do inverse operations so that would be +4 to each side -4 cancles out 8+4 = 12 so now the equation is 3y=12 and 12 /3 equals 4 so y equals 4 so the answer is B (1,4) am i right?
yes. sorry for implying you were looking for an answer. you're clearly invested. good job
its okay lol a lot of people just come on here to cheat but i want to understand what i am doing not cheating lol and thankyou if i could id give you a medal for your pasince and helpfulness but unfortuanetly i don't have medals to give haha but thankyou so much!!!
you can tag me whenever I'm on in the future if you want a full explanation on something I know.
te he thanks for the medal by the way and i will
