The Carriage held but just Ourselves – And Immortality. What is the effect of the phrase “but just Ourselves” in the lines above? A - It gives the poem a humble tone. yeah, I'd say D too. those lines are supposed to represent death. the "carriage" being her death chariot, the "ourselves" we can assume means her and death, and the "immortality" shows that the author doesn't see death as the end, but as a new beginning
