Which expressions show how 6 • 45 can be rewritten using the distributive property? Choose all answers that are correct. A. 6 • 40 + 6 • 5 B. 6 • 40 − 6 • 5 C. 6 • 50 – 6 • 5 D. 6 • 50 + 5
The distributive property is a(b+c)=ab+ac you have 6(45) I guess what is means is to write this in ab+ac form... so first rewrite 45 as a sum (try to look at your choices for a hint in to what sum you are to write it as)
You can also write as a difference
The answer is C
that is incorrect
what about A?
Why are the answers being given?
No it's not 6 times 50 is 300 and 6 times 5 is 30
Next using the ORDER OF OPERATION you will do 300 - 30 and you get 270 which is 6 times 45
but that is not using the distributive property formula
if you look carefully there are 2 correct options
You don't need to use distributive property @calculusxy look at the problem again
Wait my bad @calculusxy sorry I wasn't paying attention
no problem
you have to break down the number 45
@deadpool123 your problem isn't making any sense?
well you can use the distributive property to answer this the choices are in this form ab+ac except only choices that have this form are A,B, and C. Now I'm not saying all of these will work. I'm just saying they all have the form ab+ac form. ab+ac can be written as a(b+c) so you have 6(45) The trick is to rewrite 45 as a sum or a difference using the numbers in the choices that do work. Then use distributive property once you have written 45 as a sum and/or difference.
