Can someone check my answer please

Sheila is redecorating her room. She measured and cut a strip of wallpaper border that was seventy-four inches long for a span of wall that was actually only seventy inches long. What was the percent error in Sheila's measurement, to the nearest whole percent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer i got is 4%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 5.5%. 70/74=94.45. 100-94.45=5.5

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

\[\frac{ |approximate - exact| }{ |exact| } \times 100\]

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

you did get the approximate - exact, but you have to divide 4/70 and then multiply by 100 to get the percent error

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5.71 approx

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

understood?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes an so it 17.5 right

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

did you divide 4/70 correctly?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

because if you did, then you would have gotten 5.71%.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

is that okay?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but dats not the answer three percent four percent five percent six percent

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

well then, you have to round it. if you round 5.71% you will get 6%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok , i think i calculate in my head worng

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

no problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

next time when have problems an i will mention u ok
