russia wanted to sell its alaskan territory because they were afraid it would be overrun by britain if a war broke out. with the purchase of alaska, the US had hundreds of thousands of new square miles in territory. it's not A and it's definitely not D. I'd say it's C. the seal fishery is one of the main reasons that the US considered purchasing alaska. they made a lot of money from the skins and sold them in world markets.
