can someone check my answer? simple algebra question just want to make sure it's right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The graph of f(x) = 2x + 4 shifts five units to the right when it is replaced with the graph of f(x) = 2x - k. What is the value of k?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first one is \[2^{x+4}\] second one is\[2^{x-k}\] -5 -1 1 5 is the answer choices i say 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

caught between b and c

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\large f(x) = 2^{x+4}?\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and it shifts 5 units left when replaced with \[f(x=)2^{x-k}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[f(x)=2^{x-k}\]

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

right.. so \(\large \bf f(x)=2^{x+4}\qquad f(x)=2^{x+4{\color{blue}{ -5}}}\qquad {\color{blue}{ horizontal\ shift}}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it's -1

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap any values added/subtracted to the "grouped x" part, are horizontal shifts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks :)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
