Why there may be changes in cardiac and nerve excitability when potassium retention occurs in renal failure?

Is the potassium retention occurs inside the cells or outside in the blood?Im really confused

High potassium in the blood....... Intracellular potassium is higher than extracellular potassium due to Na/K active pumps. If you have high potassium in the blood.....then your heart cannot have a normal "beat"

So,if the intracellular potassium is high would that mean that high potassium amounts would leak outside the cells causing hyperkalemia in the blood, thus increasing the rate of repolarisation and so the heart would beat more slower because of the high outflux of potassium resulting from hyperpolarisation inside the cells?

Tetany occurs when things are overexciting like high extracellular Ca2+ in the muscles. This would cause your muscle to twitch. Maybe this is related to the heart with high K+ level in the blood.

I just asked my doctor :) He said..... It can cause premature atrial/ventricular contractions. Not really increased in heart rate because everyone has different tolerance to K+ levels
