any ways to remember the distance, midpoint and gradient formulas?

OpenStudy (bradely):

A(x1,y1) and B(x2,y2) Distance, sqrt((x2-x1)^2+(y2-y1)^2) Midpoint ((x1+x2)/2,(y1+y2)/2) Gradient (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) Source: http://www.mathskey.com/question2answer

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

yes... its easy 1. plot the points.... so (2, 3) and (7, 4) create a right triangle and put the side measures on |dw:1407917765793:dw| slope = rise/run so m = 1/5 distance, use pythagoras 1^2 + 5^2 = d^2 midpoint find half the side lengths... x: 5/2 y 1/2 so count on 2 1/2 from the lower value 2 x = 4 1/5 count on 1/2 from lower value 3 y = 3 1/2 so the midpoint is (4 1/2, 3 1/2) no formula's to remember.... the only thing you need to know |dw:1407918005705:dw| hope it helps
