OpenStudy (cbreadbox):

"What is the probability that a randomly placed point will land in the shaded region of the diagram shown below?" *it's a picture of a rectangle with a shaded smaller rectangle in the center. On the bigger rectangle the measurements measure 6 and 10. In the smaller rectangle the measurements are 2 and 4* I need help with this question. The lesson/book didn't give me a example of how to do this. I'm trying to find the probability.

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

Are you talking a single point to land in a shaded area that is presented as a rectangle the probability would be the area of that rectangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The probability would be the fraction of the total area that the shaded rectangle takes up. For instance: |dw:1407951467467:dw| The probability of getting a point in the shaded region would be \(\dfrac{ab}{xy}\).
