Why was the Proclamation of 1763 important to the American revolution ?
he proclamation of 1763 prohibited american settlers from moving west of the Mississippi. King George III created it so that the newly acquired land from the the French and Indian war (seven years war in england) could be organized and to prevent outbreaks of violence with the native americans living there. However the colonists were very resentful of this act because they were just in a war to acquire it and now they cannot settle there. Many did not care or understand the need to maintain peace with the native american tribes living there. Lots of settlers ignored the proclamation and settled there anyway. It is said by some historians to be a major contributing factor to the american revolution but others believe it was not a big deal. It did raise tension between colonists and britain and the colonists began to resent the government and become more independent.
