Determine whether the vectors u and v are parallel, orthogonal, or neither. u = <6, -2>, v = <8, 24>

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Abhisar do you know how I could figure this out?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

first step calculate the slopes of each vector

OpenStudy (tylerd):

-2/6 or -1/3 and 24/8 or 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i just do that the same way as calculating the slope of 2 points?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

yes y/x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see. so what do i do after that?

OpenStudy (tylerd):

well we know they are not paralell because they do not have the same slope

OpenStudy (tylerd):

if you remember from algebra,to find the slope of a perpendicular line you take the negative reciprocal of the line

OpenStudy (tylerd):

-1/3 is the negative reciprocal of 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so they're orthogonal

OpenStudy (tylerd):

ya id say so

thank you!!
