Help?

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

OpenStudy (nikato):

look at x and y, when x increases by 1, y increases by 3 so is there a correlation/relationship btw x and y?

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Yes right?

OpenStudy (nikato):

yea.

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

So f(x) = x + 3?

OpenStudy (nikato):

no. what is the slope?

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

3?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

It can't be a line, since there is no common difference between the xs and the ys.

OpenStudy (nikato):

no pick any two points lets say 0,4 and 1,7 use slope formula \[\frac{ 7-4 }{ 1-0 }=?\]

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

It is not a line

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

IT IS A LINE I am sorry.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes, I am stupid, sorry !

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

just by graphing the points you can see the slope is 3.

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

so i got tht right?

OpenStudy (nikato):

no. you're function is still not right

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

no, the y-intercept is 4

OpenStudy (nikato):

slope is 3 and y-intercept is 4 so f(x)= 3x+4

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

YEs

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

ohhhh ok

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

So you did B and A

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Can you do C ?

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Um for C... isnt it the starting point?

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

like y starts with 4 soo...

OpenStudy (nikato):

yes. your y-intercept is the starting point of the plant

OpenStudy (nikato):

and the slope?

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

The slope is the height of the plant per hour of sunlight

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

i think :/

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes, and it is 3.

OpenStudy (nikato):

yes. but you could be more specific for this problem. growth of 3cm per hour of sunlight

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

oh ok

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

The slope is 3, in other words after for every x-unit there are 3 y-units. OR, for every hour, 3cm growth. Saying -- it grows 3cm per hour. The y-intercept is when `x` is equal to zero, or in other words, when zero hours passes -- at the start, the plant was 4cm. (because when x=0, y=4) So the plant was 4cm initially, and grows 3cm every hour. ↓ ↓ y-intercept slope

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Oh ok... Thank You sooooo Much you two! I really appreaciate it!

OpenStudy (nikato):

you're welcome

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):
