Most mutations that cause cancer occur within body cells, and body cell mutations are not inherited. If cancer is not inherited, why does cancer statically appear to run in families?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are right @black_impala67. mutations in somatic cells are not inherited..but those in germ cells alone are inherited. When many cases of cancer occur in a family, it is most often due to chance or because family members have been exposed to a common toxin, such as cigarette smoking. Less often, these cancers may be caused by an inherited gene mutation causing a family cancer syndrome.
