Show that the area enclosed between the curves. ( y=9-x^2) and (y=x^2-7) is 128 * sqrt 2 / 3 /. I have found the two areas for both equations. My question is why do we add the two areas of the two equations instead of subtracting them ?

I think you're mistaken, I would definitely subtract the lower parabola from the higher parabola.
