How does climate affect the rate of chemical weathering? Chemical weathering is slowed down by intense rainfall. Chemical weathering rates are independent of climate because they rely only on interaction with the atmosphere. Chemical weathering rates increase when temperature and rainfall increase. Chemical weathering is fastest in cold, dry climates.
