14. 0.5 * pi * 9^2 - 0.5 * pi * (9-2.5)^2 the 9 = radius of patio (= half diameter 18) It's \[40.5 \pi - 21.125\pi= my~answer\] ------------------------------- 15. \[2\pi \times 5^{2}=157 \] \[3\pi \times 3^{2}=84.78 \]

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

On the first, why do you doubt? It appears as if you have the idea.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please just check if both of my answers are right. :)

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

On the second, why do you doubt? It appears as if you have the idea.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

... Never mind then.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Never mind what? What does that second sentence from each comment mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you tend to drop hints, why can't you clearly tell me- hey, it's right? ... Why make me read between the lines?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Part of what you are supposed to be learning study of the mathematics is confidence in yourself. If you rely too heavily on others' opinions, you will not develop this confidence. You tell me if you think it is right. If you think it is not right, tell me why you think that. Your personal opinion of your work is of far greater value than my opinion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here we go again... My happiness lies on knowing whether the answer is right or not; you really make this more complicated than what it is.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Not so. Is your answer correct or isn't it? If it isn't correct, what did you do incorrectly? Can you fix it? Mathematics is not a mechanical process. It is a thought process requiring the greatest of imagination and confidence. This is why it is so often a required subject. It teaches the astute student far more than how to manipulate cute little symbols.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hmm I must be doing something wrong for number 14. \(\Large\rm \frac{1}{2}\pi R^2-\frac{1}{2}\pi r^2=\frac{\pi}{2}18^2-\frac{\pi}{2}15.5^2\approx131.55\) Uh oh I better check my work again +_+ Hmmm

zepdrix (zepdrix):

How did you get 61? :o

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Diameter or Radius?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Ooooo ty. Silly me :c
