What are the first five terms of the sequence defined by asub1=-1 and asubn=1/3(asubn-1) (sub just means it should be a subscript)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

\(\large\color{blue}{ a_1=-1,~~~~a_n=1/3(a_n-1)\huge\color{white}{ \rm │ }}\) like this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Well, you know the first term already... WAIT... \(\large\color{blue}{ a_1=-1,~~~~a_n=1/3(a_{n-1})\huge\color{white}{ \rm │ }}\) -1 is part of the sub , in other words the common ratio is 1/3 right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, sorry. misread it the first time

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Okay, so with the common ratio of 1/3, you will get the denominator increasing... 1/1 1/3 1/9 1/27 1/81 for the first 5 term. And on....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, thank you!
