A cathode ray produced in a gas-filled tube moves away from a negative field, such as one produced by a magnet. When a paddle wheel is installed inside the tube, the wheel moves down the tumble in the same direction as the cathode ray. What properties of electrons do these two phenomena illustrate?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

one is that electrons have a negative charge, i dont understand what the second experiment is testing for.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

maybe that they have momentum (and consequently mass).

OpenStudy (midhun.madhu1987):

When a Electric or Magnetic field is placed across the path of Cathode rays, then they get deflected. This indicates that the cathode rays are Charged particles. When a paddle is kept in it path, it rotates it showing that they have mechanical properties.
