OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

The pedigree shows the inheritance of free earlobes and attached earlobes in five generations of a family. Attached earlobes is caused by a recessive allele (f). Half-shaded symbols are NOT used in this pedigree to show carriers of the allele.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

Predict the genotype and phenotype of individual 14 in Figure 14-2.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

@superhelp101 @KlOwNlOvE

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

so i know the phenotypes is are the physical characteristics....

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

so it is a male with attached earlobes

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

genotypes, what is that ?

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

the genetic constitution of an individual organism.

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

Oh hmmm..

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

wild guesses are accepted :D

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

So do we have to make a punnet square?

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

negative just the pic

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

Oh gosh, sorry I am using my phone so it is kinda hard to answer the question. I' ll be home in probs 10 mins!

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

yay

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

cause i really need my 72 today

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

:pp I gonna have a all nighter tonight Whoop whoop! But I do that every single day so like whatever >.<

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

youre awesome

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

ah, home sweet home! okay let see what to do with those geneotypes

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

:D

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

@jgirl128 this is it :d

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

because the 1 male passed it on to the 4 female. then because she was with a dominant free earlobe, they didn't have any offspring that had attached earlobes but they did carry the recessive gene. so then because the 8 male and the 9 female carried the recessive gene, they passed it on to their offspring. even though the attached earlobe trait is the recessive trait, it can still be the trait that's exhibited.

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

@jgirl128 so i see what you are saying but if you say simply individual 14 is male with attached earlobes would that just be incorrect or a incomplete answer ?

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

okay i got my answer thanks guys

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

i'll close it buy you can keep chatting

OpenStudy (bioepic):

Oh man, just 15 min too late! I coulda helped, I just did much harder problems like these yesterday.

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

no, I'd say that's right. you can assume it's male because it's a square and because it looks like the male gender is dominant in that family. and now because of the 10-13 offspring, the attached earlobes become the dominant trait

OpenStudy (jgirl128):

what do you think bio?

OpenStudy (superhelp101):

okay thanks!
