Can someone please help me with ONE QUESTION?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the function f(x) = 3x + 2, find x such that f(x) = 14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's really hard :(

OpenStudy (mokeira):

substitute 3(14)+2 42+2= 44

OpenStudy (cj49):

plug in 14 in places of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh my gosh that actually makes sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 14 = 3x + 2 right

OpenStudy (cj49):

substitue 14 in places of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that would make it f(14) = 3(14) + 2

OpenStudy (cj49):

yes

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

No that is not correct The question is asking what value of 'x' would make y = 14 f(x) = 3x + 2 we want f(x) or 'y' to equal 14 so we have \[\large 14 = 3x + 2\] \[\large 3x = 12\] \[\large x = 4\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ooooh OKAY that makes sense thank you

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

No problem :)
