FAN + MEDAL HELP PLEASE...........!!!!!!!!!!! Find the measure of angle x. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth. (please type the numerical answer only)

OpenStudy (pandalife):

.

OpenStudy (pandalife):

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (pandalife):

@tkhunny @aaronq

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

|dw:1408402096253:dw| \(\bf tan(x)=\cfrac{opposite}{adjacent}\implies tan^{-1}[tan(x)]=tan^{-1}\left(\cfrac{opposite}{adjacent}\right) \\ \quad \\ \measuredangle x=tan^{-1}\left(\cfrac{opposite}{adjacent}\right)\)

OpenStudy (pandalife):

im confused can we work it out together.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... .is pretty straight there..... keep in mind that the opposite side to an angle, is the side that's "facing it off" and the other will be the adjacent one... usually the smaller side of the remaining two

OpenStudy (pandalife):

tan0=8/15

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

recall your SOH CAH TOA http://www.mathwarehouse.com/trigonometry/images/sohcohtoa/sohcahtoa-all.png :)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes 8/15 is right... so then you'd just get the \(\bf tan^{-1}\) to both sides

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

keep in mind that \(\bf tan^{-1}[tan(whatever)]=whatever\)

OpenStudy (pandalife):

0=tan-18/15?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes, thus \(\bf tan(x)=\cfrac{8}{15}\implies tan^{-1}[tan(x)]=tan^{-1}\left(\cfrac{8}{15}\right) \\ \quad \\ \measuredangle x=tan^{-1}\left(\cfrac{8}{15}\right)\)

OpenStudy (pandalife):

how would i put in in numerical and round to the nearest hundereth?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well.. what did you get?

OpenStudy (pandalife):

do you just divide 8/15?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well.. nope.. notice the inverse Tangent function there

OpenStudy (pandalife):

can you explain it please?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

check your scientific calculator...it'd have a button that looks like \(\bf \huge [tan^{-1}]\)

OpenStudy (pandalife):

0.5904?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it helps you remember SOH CAH TOA, Some Old Hippie Caught Another Hippie Tripping On Acid.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well.. I think you mean tan(8/15) you want \(\bf [tan^{-1}]\)

OpenStudy (pandalife):

0.00930?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

swagmaster47 you sound like wanting to redo the good ol` groovy days =P

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=online+calculator&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest&gws_rd=ssl#channel=suggest&q=calculator <-- click on [INV] button to get the inverse tangent function and plug in your numbers :)

OpenStudy (pandalife):

0.489?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmm well....is not that

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmmm

OpenStudy (pandalife):

......

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

I see what happened you're correct, that is the inverse tangent of 8/15 HOWEVER your calculator is in Radians mode so it'd be 0.489 radians, yes

OpenStudy (pandalife):

is that the answer?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes.... unless you want the Degrees instead and then you'd do the same, just make sure your calculator is in Degree mode

OpenStudy (pandalife):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
