I don 't know too much about it, but here is some info. http://www.eduresourcecollection.com/civil_sm_Stresses.php

OpenStudy (amriju):

U pull a bar longitudinally from two sides..tensile U press a bar from two sides..compressive U press a ball from all sides...u use bulks modulus instead of youngs...volume

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amriju its quite helpful :) but i stil hav a confusin ... suppsoe if we press a cube form all side what wil it b ..a compresional / volumetric stress ?? in my book diagram says it is compressional stress ... what what wil be volumetric stress?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got answer :) @JoannaBlackwelder @amriju it was written in recommanded ssite that it wil b called volumetric compressive stress... know i came to a conclusion that if compressive stress is causes linear deformation we wil use young's modulus but if it is 3 dimensional we wil use bulk modulud... can u lease make it sure for m whether em right or wrong ??

OpenStudy (amriju):

yo..correctomundo..:)

thnks ;:)
