Algebra 2 - Greatest Common Factor(GCF) In excercise 2-5, factor out the greatest common factor. 4x^2 - 8x 4x(x-2) My Ans: 4x Not sure if it is 4x, or just 4.

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

yes, the answer is 4x. you are right :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thanks!

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

No Problem! :)

OpenStudy (aum):

But for the answer they are not asking what the greatest common factor is. They are asking you to factor out the greatest common factor. Therefore, 4x^2 - 8x = 4x(x-2) is the answer. (not just 4x).

OpenStudy (ibbutibbu.):

Can you please explain, @aum

OpenStudy (aum):

If the question asks: What is the greatest common factor in 4x^2 - 8x? The answer is 4x. If the questions says: Factor out the greatest common factor in 4x^2 - 8x the answer is: 4x(x - 2).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh so it'll be 4x(x-2)?
