Algebra 2 - Greatest Common Factor(GCF) Is my work and answer correct? "for exercises 1-10, factor out the greatest common factor." QUESTION: x^2(2x+5) + 17(2x+5) WORK: 2x^3 + 5x^2 + 34x + 85 MY ANSWER: GCF: 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isn't the greatest common factor (2x+5)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because you can divide both sides by that amount?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm confused, can you explain a bit more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2(2x+5) + 17(2x+5) notice how both sides contain (2x+5) so wouldn't that make (2x+5) the greatest common factor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if that's the gcf, then I guess the gcf for this one is also (2x+1) x(2x+1) + 4(2x+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, if i interpret the exercise correctly, that would make sense.

Okay thanks.
