Been having trouble with this problem. I've always been bad with story problems so sorry if it's a bad question. Mike's cell phone plan is $50 per month plus $0.10 per text message for each message. If Mike's cell phone bill is $112, for how many extra text messages was he billed?
Let's call the text messages "m", ok? So the equation for this is C(cost) = 50(cuz that doesn't ever change) + .10m (which means 10 cents per text message. If the cost is 112, here's your equation: 112=50+.1m Solve for m. Can you do that?
"m" will be the number of text messages he was billed for.
It's not a bad question. And it's not too difficult, either. You can do this!
So I'm guessing you subtract 50 from both sides and you end up with 62=.1m?
Yep...go on...
Now what do you do?
What do you do with the .1?
Divide the 62 by .10 and get 620
So 620 messages?
You're right! He texted 620 messages! Sounds like my teenage girls!
You're right! Good job!
Haha, thanks. I just really have trouble coming up with the work.
You did great!
Thanks! I have another after this if you want to sit through one more.
I'll try it first though.
Sure...go ahead. I love story problems! Call me crazy...
Haha, alright
