for example 2/4 in the simplest form is 1/2 because you take out all the factors that are on both sides

it means that it cannot be simplified anymore .it means it is as small as the number can get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because in 2/4 both the numerator and the denominator can be divided by 2. So it contains unnecessarily big numbers
