12x + 10 = 5x - 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think the first step is>

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

12x + 5x = 10 - 15 17x = - 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

close but when you move something from one side of the equation to another, you have to flip the sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 12x -5x = -10 -10

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Oh i see. so: 12x - 5x = -10 - 15 7x = -25? sorry the equation was 12x + 10 = 5x - 10

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

@RaeDeSol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when we get terms on one side we do the reciprocal to its other

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

7x = -25 /7 /7 x = -3.57?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that looks right as long as the equation was 12x + 15 = 5x - 10

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):
