Parametric equations??!

OpenStudy (scorcher219396):

Can somebody explain in general what they are and how to solve them/recommend a good site/page to check out? I know I had briefly studied these in an old class, but now I have absolutely no idea what to do with this problem: Find the equation of the tangent line to the curve at the point corresponding to the given value of the parameter x=t^4+1, y=t^3+1, t=-1

OpenStudy (scorcher219396):

I know to get the cartesian equation you need to eliminate the parameter and substitute but I am clearly missing something else too because that's not possible here
