...many men went off to fight the war leaving factories understaffed to meet the growing orders of war materiel. That's why you have propaganda posters like Rosie the Riveter showing up promoting women in the workplace. It was huge because back then, the traditional stereotype for women was to be at home -- not in a factory helping build B-52s.
