In order to do the problems for Intro to Derivatives, Session 1, I have to use the mathlet thing. Is there a way to do the problems without it or is there an alternate site to go to that will do the same thing as the mathlet link?

I experienced the same problem. The problem is not with your browser or its security settings, but instead with the Java panel. Just open the control panel and search for JAVA; then, open it and click on the security tab. There, you'll have to take the security down to the minimum.
