solve the system of equations using elimination. -7x-2y=-13y x-2y=11

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Elimination. Think about common multiples. The most glaring, here, would be the y-coefficients. How about multiplying the first equation by -1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why would i multiply it by negative one?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You didn't do it? Very disappointing. 1) All those negatives will be eliminated, making the whole problem prettier. 2) The y will then be easily eliminated. Since we are using "elimination", this is good.
