Well, from what I understand, there is something called the Eastern Continental Divide. It is an area on top of the Appalachian Mountains whereby, if you were to pour a glass of water on one side of this landmark, the water would flow downhill and EASTWARD toward the Atlantic Ocean. One of the rivers that comes to mind is the Potomac River that flow through Washington DC and eventually empties into the Chesapeake Bay and then the Atlantic Ocean. If you were to pour a glass of water on the other side of the Eastern Continental Divide, that cup of water would again flow downhill, only in a western route, and most likely wind-up in the Mississippi River and eventually empty into the Gulf of Mexico near New Orleans. There is the Mississippi River System that includes many tributaries. One of them that I know of is the Ohio River that empties into the mighty Mississip.
