Explain what causes a change of state. Be sure to include what is happening with the molecules.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Depends what state you're starting it. For instance, if you go from liquid \(\rightarrow\) solid, the molecules are taking a more permanent shape, and coming closer w/in proximity, if you're going from gas \(\rightarrow\) liqud, then the molecules are also coming closer, more shape. but if you're going from liquid \(\rightarrow\) gas, then the molecules are becoming more dispersed, and as you know the kinetic energy increeases, since the molecules have more space to collide with each other. There's also solid \(\rightarrow\) gas (sublimation), but i was assuming it went thru liquid state before going into gas in the previous examples.
