Describe why carbon is the key element in forming structural components of cells. Discuss carbons atomic structure in your answer.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Carbon is a very special and unique atom which can form 4 covalent bonds with other atoms. If you look at carbon: |dw:1408753329839:dw| has 4 valence electrons. And, if you're familiar with the octet rule, it can bond to other carbon atoms to complete it's octet.

Carbon is the most abundant element in nature! U see it has its own chemistry- the organic chemistry! It is because it has four valence electrons and thus forms millions of structures bonding with other carbon atoms and many other atoms in general, forming single as well as multiple bonds!!! **Hope it helps!
