we use kvl if we have a series circuit that forms a closed loop... and use kcl if we have a parallel circuits where we have a node, currents entering a node equals currents leaving that same node...

if we have a series circuit, better to work with impedance... if we have a parallel circuit, better to work with admittance... admittance is reciprocal of impedance...
