Why did the Ku Klux Klan rise again in the early 1920s?

The 1920's was a time of increased distrust and disinterest in other countries due to the aftereffects of WWI. This led to a dislike of immigrants. Additionally, there was an upsurge in fundamentalism and a desire to return to old values. Finally, Birth of a Nation came out and portrayed the KKK in a positive light. All these factors combined to make the KKK's values seem more desirable, and their actions more noble.
