Fan & Medal Simplify: 3u+ 7v+ 4u- 2v A.7u+v B.7u + 9v 10u-2v 12uv
you just have to add the like terms, i.e. those with the same variable
Yeah it's just a matter of doing like terms
\[3u+ 7v+ 4u- 2v \]
@LOLAri Do you know what like terms are?
3u 4u and 7v 2v
yes, add the u's and the v's together then you have your answer
I thought it was 12uv??
@kshirley
no you cannot combine u and v unless it's by multiplication/division since they are not like terms
they must remain separated by an addition/subtraction sign, so just add the u's and the v's and keep the two different terms separated since you cannot combine them
But what if the things are different like one is add and one is subtract do i just all add??
@ kshirley
it doesn't matter if one is add or one is subtract, the sign in front of the term stays with it, i.e. if i have 4-x, it would be -x+4 if i switched the order
@LOLAri
Ohhh ok thnx.
So if the equation was 6y+ 5z +8y - 3z it would be 14y+2z @kshirley
EXACTLY!!!! good job :) @LOLAri
3u+ 7v+ 4u- 2v check your signs should that be + 2v to get choice B ?
good job on the 2nd one it shows you know how now
